Twitter educators – you are amazing!

In January 2020, I set out on my mission to figure out ‘edutwitter’. It is now July 2020 and my world has grown immensely because of Twitter. I have met so many fabulous educators and learnt so much in such a short space of time. Thank you!

In February 2020 I started #TinyVoiceTuesday (the question and answer service) and a week later I began #TinyVoiceTuesdayUnites (the weekly community gathering). A few weeks after that I formed the #TVTTagTeam. I genuinely have to pinch myself when around 500 people turn up each week to connect on #TinyVoiceTuesdayUnites and I can’t believe the #TVTTagTeam has 350 on it now. Together we help each other to grow and learn as educators. In 2020 though, I think we have helped each other in even more ways.

I don’t know about you, but I have found this year tough. The familiarity of other years has been thrown out the window and I am so grateful to everyone who sought help on Twitter – your questions helped myself and others to circumnavigate the choppy waters that lay ahead. I learnt so much from the questions about remote learning, digital platforms, bubbling and socially distanced P.E. The people who posed the questions were the brave ones and those who answered were the heroes who helped more people than they will ever realise.

#edutwitter became so much more as well – I watched as emotional support was given and received and I laughed as @grahamandre and @MrEFinch began their Sunday night sing-a-long. Together, these two gentlemen then transformed educational CPD by bringing #BrewEd to the small screen – we have had #BrewEdIsolation #GlobalBrewEdIsolation #BrewEdArts and #NewEd2. #WomenEd has been equally brilliant with all their events and online CPD has taken off like never before. I have learnt so much from so many wonderful educators – something that would never have happened if it weren’t for lockdown and virtual webinars. Thank you!

I feel sorry for educators not on Twitter as they have missed out on so much and I truly hope that as lockdown eases we don’t forget to connect in the ways that we have in 2020. I’m not going anywhere but just in case you are, I wish you a happy, healthy, sunny summer holiday. Allow yourself to rest, breathe and recharge.

Should you want to catch up I will still be running #TinyVoiceTuesdayUnites each week (every Tuesday from 5am), putting questions out on #TinyVoiceTuesday and hosting some of the #MorningBrewEd sessions on Sunday mornings at 10am.

Thank you for keeping me sane in 2020 and please keep in touch because –
